  • Member of Professional Development Committee. Worked with instructional and administrative staff to provide oversight to school’s professional development program.   • Created, directed, and co-edited Pioneer Passages, an online and print journal of the college’s writing community. Built a writing community which came together once a year to celebrate the writing published in Pioneer Passages.

  • Article published in Oregon English Journal: “Books and a Baby Boomer.”

  • Response to Column Prompt for “Teachers Write” published in English Journal. I advocated a multi-faceted approach to teaching “The Crucible.”

VOLUNTEER AND CIVIC ACTIVITIES

Literary Arts College Essay Exchange Volunteer Mentor-- April 2024-Present

  • Meet one-to-one in 1.5 hour session with high school juniors, give positive and constructive feedback on college application essay drafts. Emphasize applicants drop into action immediately; practice showing, not telling writing; and specifically demonstrate how they might approach their studies in higher education.

Racial Justice Learning Circles Dec. 2021-March 2023.

  • Read and discussed racial justice books and essays to improve understanding of the African American experience and cultural diversity. Listened to and discussed Scene on Radio podcasts by John Biewen and Chenerai Kumanyika to gain more understanding of the African American experience and cultural diversity.
